Critical Care Unit

A hospital’s Critical Care department is a specialized division providing round-the-clock care, treatment, and support for patients with serious or life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Patients in the care unit require continuous monitoring and advanced medical interventions to preserve and restore normal body functions.

At Queen’s Hospital, our critical care unit is staffed by highly skilled Critical Care physicians and expert nurses who provide personalized, high-quality care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients may be admitted to the critical care unit directly from the Emergency Department, from a ward if their condition deteriorates rapidly, or immediately after high-risk condition.

Critical care units have more staff per patient than standard hospital wards and access to advanced medical equipment. Common conditions treated include post-surgery recovery, trauma, sepsis, and multi-organ failure. Each patient receives individualized attention under the supervision of experienced critical care professionals.
