Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Queen’s Hospital NICU is a modern 13-bed facility, the most advanced in the Sylhet region, providing intensive care for newborn infants with complex medical conditions. This includes prematurity, very low birth weight, low birth weight, neonatal jaundice, and conditions requiring immediate post-birth surgery.
The NICU is strategically located close to the labor complex and features specialized equipment such as:
- Blue and yellow light phototherapy for infants with neonatal jaundice
- Open and closed incubators to maintain body temperature in premature infants
- Hyaline membrane factor (surfactant) therapy for underdeveloped lungs of premature babies

The NICU team provides acute care for critically ill or unstable newborns requiring advanced monitoring and intensive treatment. Care is delivered with precision and coordination by a multidisciplinary team committed to the highest standards of patient care.
Nursing care is designed to meet the psychological, physical, and emotional needs of the newborn, with a NICU layout that allows staff to observe all patients continuously. Each bed is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for continuous vital sign monitoring.
